The Magazine is an on-line version Word Document of the CA magazine edited by Barry Banwell and all magazine articles and enquiries can be sent to him.
The website magazine is updated monthly at the same time as the latest edition is circulated round the village.
The site is designed to load much faster than other sites you are likely to see on the net, especially when there's heavy web traffic and congestion on the net. After all, we're using a free ISP so we don't have the luxury of high bandwith. The site is 100% hand-coded W3C CSS validated HTML (clean, lean and mean!) because WYSIWYG web-authoring tools generate reams of extraneous and idiosyncratic coding which really slows down site loading. Likewise the site is free of Frames, Flash and complicated tables because these have to load in full before the site even starts to display.
However, we apologise for the size of the graphics files. Normally we scan and optimise images for the web at about 70dpi but many of the graphics we have at present are high resolution images. So we've put some graphics on the site anyway, in case you're prepared to wait! Others (like the Loxton drawings) we do not have permission to display at high resolution - and with our current workload there are no plans for rescanning.....
These are the badges we've been awarded by the World Wide Web Consortium and allowed to display on the site because our HTML and CSS coding meets the world's highest web standards.
This is the ICRA badge which we are allowed to display because the content of the site has been declared and labelled to International Standards.
Javascript isn't used here for navigation roll-overs but some Javascript effects and animated gifs have been added sparingly because apparently you like them!
www.winterbourne.freeuk.com is cross-browser compatible at different screen resolutions - but if you are having any problems, please let us know.
